OpenDNS helps protect your SOHO & Family online.

IT

OpenDNS is a service that allows you to use their DNS servers instead of the DNS servers provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). By using OpenDNS, you can potentially improve the speed and security of your internet connection. One of the main benefits of using OpenDNS is that it can block malicious websites and phishing attempts. You can set up OpenDNS on your home network by changing the DNS server settings on your router or individual devices. You can also use the OpenDNS Family Shield service, which is a pre-configured version of OpenDNS that is designed to block inappropriate content and protect children online.

To set up OpenDNS on your home network, you will need to change the DNS server settings on your router or individual devices. Here’s how you can do this:

  1. Sign up for an account on the OpenDNS website.
  2. Choose the plan that you want to use. The basic plan is free, while the Family Shield plan is a paid service that is designed to block inappropriate content and protect children online.
  3. Set up your home network to use OpenDNS by changing the DNS server settings on your router or individual devices.

On a router:

  1. Find your router’s IP address. This is usually listed in the documentation that came with the router, or you can try looking it up online.
  2. Open a web browser and enter the router’s IP address into the address bar. This will open the router’s configuration page.
  3. Look for the DNS server settings and change the primary and secondary DNS server addresses to the following:

Primary: 208.67.222.222

Secondary: 208.67.220.220

  1. Save the changes and restart the router.

On an individual device:

  1. Go to the network settings on your device. This can typically be found in the “Settings” or “Network & Internet” section of the device’s operating system.
  2. Look for the option to change the DNS server settings. This may be called “DNS settings,” “Name server,” or something similar.
  3. Change the primary and secondary DNS server addresses to the following:

Primary: 208.67.222.222

Secondary: 208.67.220.220

  1. Save the changes and restart the device.

Once you have changed the DNS server settings, your device or home network will be using OpenDNS to resolve domain names and block malicious websites. If you have any issues setting up OpenDNS, you can refer to the OpenDNS documentation or contact their support team for assistance.
